Consumer directed services (CDS)
Consumer Directed Services (CDS) is a Missouri Medicaid program that allows consumers (you) to hire a personal care attendant (PCA) of their choice to assist them in their homes. Participants direct how their PCA carries out their personal care tasks. Furthermore, consumers are responsible for selecting and training their PCA.
Often, family members and friends perform essential duties for their loved ones with disabilities. Unfortunately, the time spent helping your loved ones goes uncompensated. With CDS, you can get paid for everyday tasks like grocery shopping or cleaning.
We help our consumers find, hire, and train personal care attendants. However, we can assist if you cannot find a personal care attendant. We maintain a registry of personal care attendants for that very purpose. PCAs provide non-medical personal assistance in your home.
If you require medical services ordered by your doctor, you may qualify for Veterans Care, in-home care, or private-duty care.

Am I Eligible for Consumer Directed Services?
To qualify for consumer directed services, you must be age18 years of age or older and have the ability to direct your care. You must also have a physical or cognitive disability and require assistance to live independently in your home. Additionally, you must receive or qualify for Missouri Medicaid.
Who can I Hire as a Personal Care Attendant?
Your personal care attendant can be a friend or family member other than your spouse. A PCA should be capable of performing the task defined by the consumer. They must also be 18 years of age or older, and able to pass a criminal background check. Moreover, a personal care attendant can not be on the Employee Disqualification List (EDL).

Current disabled Medicaid recipients who would benefit from a personal care attendant should contact us for a referral. What areas do we serve?
While most of our CDS consumers live in Saint Louis City and County, we service ten Missouri counties in total. Together with Jefferson, Washington, Saint Charles, Lincoln, Saint Louis, Perry, Saint Genevieve, and Saint Francois counties define our service area.
